Overview

Well Christmas is just around the corner and I really should have indulged in a festive-theme based around this time of year, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it though I do wear red a lot and have a big white beard (honestly).I had told myself when I started this 'zine that I should try not to have themes running through the short stories of any one issue as I always love to read a collection of diverse stories, but in this issue there is a micro-theme based around Japan and Japanese culture which arose by sheer coincidence.'Rokurokubi', 'Fox Fire', and 'The Undying Pen' are all written with Japanese culture in mind, either directly based on Japanese mythology or set in a Japanese-styled fantasy setting. The first story in this collection, 'Nowherian Funeral', could easily be based in the worlds of Sandman and Death of the Vertigo comics and really matures with more than one reading.'Harry's Homework' talks to us all about that fear of technology that may eventually try to surpass the works of humans, but in the meantime fails to meet the expectations we have of it.A classic horror, 'Malvore', plays upon fears of the unknown and the acceptance of oppression, then the consequences of fighting back.A zombie tale, but not just another zombie tale, 'Long Dead woman in a Black Dress' has a lovely twist.I was disappointed that I couldn't include more of the Novellas that were sent to me over the year, as there were so many good stories that need to be out there and read. In light of this, next year, I am going to offer those that don't make it into the final issue of the year a chance to be in a profit-share only issue in the January.Stephen Baird, Editor
