Lucian was born c. 125 A.D. in Samosata in Syria which was part of the Roman Empire. He introduced "modern" fictional themes like voyages to the moon, extraterrestrial life and wars between planets centuries before Jules Verne and H. G. Wells. He could actually be called the Father of Science Fiction. Lucian shows himself to be a man with a great imagination and the ability to write with humor. Although much of the humor is lost on modern man much still remains. Reading Trips to the Moon is am excellent look at the very beginning of science fiction. This book will peak the reader's curiosity and finding other works by Lucian will be a literary treat.
