Overview
Thomas Ruff's work is among the most important in contemporary fine-art photography. Since the end of the 1980s when he became famous for his portrait series he has in his work explored the conditions of the medium he uses to produce his art. The results were the series Nächte, Häuser, Sterne, Stereoskopien, Substrate and Nudes. The most recent works are called Jpegs and Cassini. The exhibition and the catalogue feature the Black Forest as a starting point and as an ever recurring motif in Ruff's work - a multifarious landscape theme in his complex pictorial cosmos.
