Then her pique gave way to a more generous impulse. May I trouble you for a look through your glasses? Certainly, he responded, and he bent over in the saddle to offer them to her. Instead of taking them, she paused to draw the gauntlet glove from her right hand. Under his cold gaze her eyes again hardened with offended pride, and again they softened and glowed with frank approbation. Can you forgive me? she asked. He bowed formally.
