Overview

At the beginning of the second decade of the Twentieth Century, a couple of worn-out gold prospectors are swapping drinks and stories at a tavern in San Francisco. They made decent fortunes in the Alaska and Yukon gold rush, but the effort sucked most of the life out of them. One by the name of Trefethan is 47, but, as he says, he looks ten years older. The weary fortune hunter remembers back to 1898, twelve years before, when he crossed the Canadian Rockies east of Alaska Territory, and much to his surprise, deep in the wild interior, he met a woman.
