Overview
The scandal caused by his late parents meant that Perys Tremayne was not readily accepted by the rest of his family or his neighbors in Heligan, Cornwall. A neighboring farmer's daughter. Annie, and her brother, Martin, are the only two who will befriend him. When war breaks out in 1914, Perys' determination and talent for flying enables him to join the Royal Flying Corps and become a distinguished flying ace. His love life is less successful. He is deeply attracted to Annie but she's committed to Jimmy, who returns from the Western Front gassed and blinded. And his relationship with Grace, a nurse working on the S.S. Sultan, ends tragically when the Germans torpedo the ship. But circumstances can change and all hope of love for Perys is not lost.
