But the ultimate answer to the controversy can, of course, be given only by the college men themselves. A clean, efficient record of joyous service from graduates the country over is the only thing that can convince fair minded people that four years at college is on the whole worth while for those who want it. The question is being answered altogether too strongly by college graduates in business and in politics who, through ignorance or for profit, are helping to maintain our system of political corruption and social inequality and misery. It is being answered, too, by those who have somehow chosen to retain their boyish ideals of justice and decency which they picked up at college. And finally it is being answered and must much more be answered by those at present in college, and by the freshman class every year entering it.
