Nestled within the Sierra Nevada, and bounded by the states of California and Nevada, the vast body of water known as Lake Tahoe has lured artists to its shores for centuries. Tahoe: Art of the Lake Tahoe Region includes six sections spanning over 200 years of cultural and creative production related to the second largest freshwater alpine lake in the United States. The book features Native American Washoe baskets; historical maps and early sketches of the area's first American explorers such as John Muir; ephemera and archive materials related to Tahoe tourism of the 1940s to the 1960s; and architectural drawings from 1900 to the present that celebrate the diversity of Tahoe architecture.



Lake Tahoe continues to attract artists, writers, designers, scientists, and travellers who recognise the unique qualities that the destination has to offer. Tahoe will serve as the definitive survey of art about the Lake Tahoe region and will become a keepsake of this national treasure.
