Overview

Rita Janero is fed up with being a woman first and a financial planner second. She works for a top New York firm, is in her mid-thirties, upwardly mobile and overworked. She decides to toss the whole lifestyle away and become a writer. She buys a log cabin in the Muskoka district of Ontario, Canada and starts writing a novel. To her surprise, the whole world seems to be interested. Gangsters, CIA agents and New York cops suddenly start converging on the nearby little tourist town of Bracebridge. What follows is an action-packed collage of international money laundering, murder and drug trafficking. Rita is stalked by a psychotic computer geek, targeted by a syndicate hit man, romanced by a tough, divorced New York policeman and kidnapped by a secret international organization of super criminals. Threading his way through a series of surprising plot twists, brutal syndicate executions and a lot of back-breaking detective work, Rick Walishin, the New York cop, tracks down her kidnappers and, after some hair-raising near-death experiences, manages to escape with her. In the process of his investigation, Walishin uncovers corruption reaching all the way from beat cops to the highest levels of the U.S. government.
