Overview
This semi-autobiographical novel tells the story of Paul a young artist. The story deals with family, social class and romance in a mining community. A young girl from a higher class meets and falls in love with a miner. She soon realizes the difficulties of living within her means. Her husband starts visiting the pub and she puts her energy into her sons. She turns to her sons as lovers, which has consequences for them when they grow and want to form relationships on their own.
