Overview
Max Beerbohm (1872 - 1956) was a British caricaturist and parodist. As a young man he was considered quite the wit and spent much time in London society. By 35 he was considered to be middle aged and a bit dull. Beerbohm was drama critic for the Saturday review and later broadcast radio work. Six delightful character sketches make up this work. Beerbohm is the seventh man. The sketches are humorous, some are parodies poking fun at the art world's inhabitants A few sketches have supernatural qualities. Enoch Soames's sketch is particularly well done. Enoch is a poet who is unappreciated. He makes a pact with the Devil to travel forward in time to see how his work is remembered in the future. He then must follow the devil ...you know where.
