For this command- chci/the1? ment, Thou shalt not commit adultery: Thou shalt not kill: fnrdven't y Thou shalt not steal: Thou shalt not bear false witness: Thou shalt not lust, and so forth; if there be any other command- ment, it is all comprehended in this saying. As for the first part of this epistle, we have1 spoken of it before. For St Paul entreateth of love; and I told you A debt st how2 that love is a thing which we owe3 one to another; and unpaid. we are never quit4 of this debt, we can never discharge ourselves of it: for as long as we live we are in that debt. I will not tarry now to entreat of it; for I told you, since I came into this country, certain special properties of this love. Therefore, I will only desire you to consider, that this love is the livery of Christ; they that have this livery be Love, his servants. Again, they that have it not, be the servants iivei.' of the devil; for Christ saith, By this they shall know that John xm. ye be my disciples, if ye love one another. They that bear ill will, hatred, and malice, to their neighbours be the devil's servants. And whatsoever such men do that hate their neighbours, pleaseth not God; God abhorreth it; they and all then doings stink before him.
