The discussion as to the nature of wines, and the duly' of the Church in relation to sacramental wine, was commenced in the American Temperance Intelligencer, but that paper being the organ of the New-York State Temperance Society, and that Society being divided in opinion on the subject, it was deemed prudent for peace' sake to discontinue the discussion thereof in so far as sacramental wine was concerned. With a view to furnish a medium for resuming the discus- sion-of this question (how known as the wine question) without implicating the Temperance Society, the Enquirer was established on the individual responsibility of the Editor. Of No. 1, in which the distinction of the kind of wine most proper to be used at the Lord's Supper was commenced, twenty thousand copies were circulated. In No. 2 this discussion was continued. By one class of writers it was contended that mere grape juice as expressed from the cluster was not wine, that all wine was fermented liquor and of course was intoxicating wine, and that the use of such wine was sanctioned by the Bible.
