Alone against the forces of darkness . . .

Jennifer Talldeer is Osage and Cherokee, grand-daughter of a powerful medicine man. She walks a difficult path: contrary to tribal wisdom, grandfather Mooncrow teaches Jennifer more than usual shaman's skills, but also a warrior's magics.

As Kestral Hunts-Alone - apprentice shaman in the spirit world - and Jennifer Talldeer - young, female private investigator - she must use all her skills, both magical and professional, to solve a mysterious and potentially terrifying situation.

Fragments of human bone and Native Indian artifacts are discovered on the site of a new shopping mall, where there have been a number of strange and violent occurences.

The mall site is not the only desecration claiming Jennifer's attention: for the grace of her great ancestor, the medicine man Watches-Over-The-Land, has been destroyed, and a great evil freed to walk the land.

Jennifer must stand against the darkness. If she wavers even for an instant, she will be annihilated - and the world will fall into oblivion.
