Overview

Hannah More who with her sisters conducted a boarding school in Bristol, was introduced to London society by Sir Joshua Reynolds. She won the friendship of David Garrick, Samuel Johnson, Horace Walpole and prominent English women of the -Bas Bleu- group. Sacred Dramas, written in verse, was completed after Garrick's death. The poem, Sensibility, is largely a eulogy on him. Mrs. More became a prolific writer of tracts and a vigorous supporter of the Evangelical Movement of the Church of England."
