Overview

Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was one of the greatest French cabinet makers and decorators. He used rare woods for the framework of his pieces, and ornamented them with ivory, tortoiseshell, lacquer, mirrors, silk and tooled metals, and also applied his artistic taste to lamps, wall coverings, rugs, beds, divans and cigar boxes, many of which are reproduced in this study of his life and work. It encompasses examples from all areas of Ruhlmann's output, and includes many sketches.
