Overview

Young Matthias Mouse helps defend Redwall Abbey against marauding rats bent on enslaving the peaceful mice who have taken refuge there. In Mossflower (1988), the prequel to Redwall, Martin the Warrior battles the evil wildcat Tsarmina to bring peace to the Mossflower Woodlands. In Mattimeo (1990), Matthias's son, Mattimeo, is enslaved by Slager the Fox and Matthias attempts a rescue, while Mattimeo's mother, Cornflower, defends Redwall Abbey from other enemies. In Mariel of Redwall (1992), set between Mossflower and Redwall in time, Mariel, the daughter of Joseph the bellmaker, becomes a warrior after Gabool the Wild, a pirate rat, steals the Joseph Bell and tries to drown her. In Salamandastron (1993), Martin's sword has been stolen and Salamandastron Castle is attacked by Ferahgo the Assassin. Martin the Warrior (1994), set in a time preceding Redwall and Mossflower, describes the early life of Redwall's founder. Recommended.
