Mr. Blodgett. give your name to the stenographer. STATEMENT OF MR. EDWAED E. BLODGETT. Mr. Blodgett. My name is Edward E. Blodgett; I am here representing the Boston Chamber of Commerce. The matter, Mr. Chairman, was brought up before the Boston Chamber of Commerce a short while ago, and the committee on maritime affairs had a number of hearings on it, and Ave finally made a report to the executive committee and the board of directors. I do not know whether that report has been filed here or not. I have a copy of the report, which was given me, which I will be glad to file. Will you have that printed, Mr. Chairman? Senator Weeks. It is a short report, and I would like to have it printed. The Chairman. Very well, it will go in as a part of the proceedings. To the Executive Committee and Board of Directors: The committee on maritime affairs recommends that you favor the taking over of the Cape Tod Canal by the Government, if satisfactory terms can be agreed upon. COMMERCIAL AND STRATEGIC VALUE OF THE CANAL. The canal itself is 8 miles long, 100 feet wide, and 25 feet deep. It brings Boston 70 miles nearer to New York. Philadelphia, Norfolk, and other Atlantic ports.
