It explores conceptions, institutions and technologies for policing in the Anglo-American world since the early twentieth century.

Policing is a social invention that is undergoing enormous challenges and changes. The authors trace these changes and the challenges that have prompted them, especially those that have taken place since the mid-twentieth century. They also address the theoretical and practical governance debates within a global context and will attract a readership beyond those with a particular interest in 'policing'.
