Overview
N.Y. Jets coach Bill Parcells retired in Jan. 2000. In a coaching career of more than 30 years, Parcells had won 149 games, lost 106, and tied one. He'd led three major pro football teams out of serious slumps, and taken two of them to the Super Bowl. Parcells was just 41 when he came to the failing N.Y. Giants in 1983. Twice, in 1986 and 1990, the team won the Super Bowl. He then took the downtrodden New England Patriots to the Super Bowl in his 4th season at the helm. In 1997 Parcells returned to N.Y. to rally the Jets. This biography examines the force that defines Parcells' public image and drives the private man, which made him one of the winningest coaches in NFL history and turned a regular kind of a New Jersey guy into a football legend.
