Dylan Scott is a yacht interior designer who lives on his Hinckley Bermuda 40 at Pier H-9 at Camachee Cove in St. Augustine. He also acquires a condo at the edge of the marina. Tragedy strikes when an uninvited young woman arrives and asks to have sailing lessons.

A county sheriff, Steve Porter, arrives and begins a friendship with Dylan. He introduces Dylan, who has a poor history with even having a second date with a woman, to Liz, his main deputy. Dylan even gets to have a third date with Liz, but no more.

The events occur well beyond Camachee Cove, including at Dylan's summer home on Fishers Island on Long Island Sound, Kenya, Martha's Vineyard, Mexico's Valle de Bravo, and closer by in Gainesville at the University of Florida, and Kissimmee at the Buddhist Monastery.
