Overview

Myeloma is a malignant disease of the bone marrow, that provides an important role model for many other types of cancer. Although the subject of considerable research, the origins of the disease remain unclear. There has however been an explosion of interest in this disease in the past decade. The first edition of Myeloma: Biology and Management provided the first authoritative, comprehensive textbook, covering the epidemiology, immunology, and haematology of this important cancer. Since publication in 1995, several important advances have taken place in myeloma research, necessitating a review of the previous text. While bringing fully up-to-date the topics covered in the first edition, the second edition includes several new chapters; the patient and family perspective of the disease, infections in myeloma, cytogenetics, neurological complications, along with a history of myeloma. The book has been written and produced by the leading world-wide authorities in myeloma research. Comments on first edition 'This book represents a first-rate reference source for all haematologist and oncologists...' (British Journal of Haematology, 1995) 'Myeloma: Biology and Management may be the most comprehensive monograph written on this subject in the last 20 years... It belongs in the library of anyone seriously interested in myeloma and should be required reading for trainees in hematology or oncology.' Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 1995 'This book is a useful compilation of the most recent advances... It is beautifully bound, printed, and illustrated and will be a valuable reference to hemtologists, oncologists, molecular scientists, and fellows who attempt to make progress in the science and the therapy of plasma cell dyscrasias.' Rating - 5 stars. Doody's Health Sciences Book Review Journal, 1995
