Overview
Artist and Williams College art professor Mike Glier has translated his preoccupation with man's connection to nature into a series of precisely plotted journeys. For Along a Long Line, he traveled to four disparate locations along the 70th longtitude to experience and paint the very diverse environments and landscapes offered along this narrowly defined slice of the earth. His itinerary included sub-Arctic Canada, the Ecuadorian rainforest, sub-tropical St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands--and New York City. While his colorful abstract landscapes are at the forefront here, also included are Glier's detailed blog entries and photographs. The result: a story of discovery and intense observation, recounted with enthusiasm and the technical mastery of plein air painting in the tradition of Audubon. AUTHOR: Mike Glier is a painter living and working in Hoosick Falls, New York. He is currently the chair of the Williams College Department of Art,Williamstown, Massachusetts. Carol Diehl is an artist, writer, contributing editor to Art in America, and former slam poet (Nuyorican Poets Cafe) who blogs about art. Lisa Corrin is the director of the Williams College Museum of Art (WCMA). She previously held the posts of chief curator at The Contemporary Museum (Baltimore), chief curator at the Serpentine Gallery (London), and deputy director of art at the Seattle Art Museum. 240 colour illustrations
