Overview

The Wonderful World of Animals series focuses on the common characteristics of the major animal families. Its goal is to give children a broader understanding of similarities between animals that seem very different from each other at first glance, such as horses and cats. Basic concepts in biology and physiology are presented to help children recognize similar traits and features of animals of the same family. This excellent series is a complement to the more typical wildlife series whose volumes focus on single animals.

Gorillas and cats are mammals; so are people, kangaroos, bats, mice, dolphins, and lots of other animals. What do they all have in common? All mammals are warm-blooded. Most give birth to live young, instead of laying eggs. Mammals feed their babies milk, and nearly all have body hair.
