Overview

Izzadeen Burgos is a fighter. Izzy-as he is known to friends and family-now 13, has been fighting his entire life. At age two. a reckless gun accident nearly ended Izzy's life. Miraculously, doctors managed to save Izzy, but were foreced to amputate his left arm. With his father in jail and his mother working long hours to support Izzy and his siblings, Izzy's fight followed him from the hospital to his home. Living in a tough North Philadelphia neighborhood, where temptations are many and success stories few, Izzy has walked the line, often teetering on the brink. Izzy discovered an outlet that fulfilled a burning need to make his mark: Boxing. Trained by retired Philadelphia police detective and youth worker Bo Diaz, Izzy joined a hallowed list of boxers tough enough to be considered a Philadelphia fighter and on June 24, 2005, boxed a three-round exhibition fight, as an emotional crowd cheered and cried during his inspirational performance.
