Thus blest by Heaven, O Woman bid thy soul Pour out its thankful praises to that Power Whose mercy has vouchsafd to lead thee forth, Harmless, through danger; bid thy infant live, It is distressing to contemplate the number of cases of infanticide that disgrace our metropolis in the present age. To trace the causes of the evil would not be compatible with the purport ofthese pages: still the author hopes that it may become a point for the inquiry of those who feel it an honour to support humanity; since preventives certainly may be effected, in very many instances, by aproper useof such sources of charity as London, to its great credit, abounds with.
