Overview

Peichl's extensive work includes many residential buildings and complexes, schools, town planning studies, buildings for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, museums, and much more. Gustav Peichl is one of the internationally recognized architects of Austria "who have helped to shape the style of the Austrian identity" (Friedrich Achleitner). Among his works, the radio studios of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation and the Federal Art Museum in Bonn have gained an international reputation. Working between tradition and the avant-garde, Peichl is a representative of a technical-aesthetic architecture in the spirit of Classical Modernism. He himself describes architecture as the "sum of function, material, color, light, space, and body." The present collection of his newest work includes several as yet unpublished projects such as the Vienna Donauzwilling, the rehearsal stage of the Vienna Burgtheater, the European Film Center in Babelsberg, and the Munich Kammerspiele theater. His most recent projects, the Wilhelm-Busch-Museum in Hanover and the Palazzo Tergesteo a Mare in Triest, are shown in detail with floor plans, model photos, and drawings.
