It was from his mother that Bishop Haven inherited his quick wit, his cheery good-nature, his sturdy conscience, and his omnivorous appetite for hard work; while from the Haven line there descended to him much of that executive ability, and a little of that magisterial dignity, the former of which often, and the latter of which occasionally, appeared in his administration of the great affairs committed to his hands. Four sons and six daughters were born to Gilbert, and Hannah Burrill, Haven.
