Bret Harte worked at many jobs throughout his lifetime -- miner, teacher, messenger, and journalist. In 1868 he turned to editing "The Overland Monthly" and the publication of his story, "The Luck of Roaring Camp," in the magazine's second edition earned him national acclaim. This collection, "Frontier Stories," contains seven short tales including "Flip: A California Romance," in which traveler Lance Harriot has a fateful meeting with the young woman, Flip, and "Found at Blazing Star," in which miner Cass Beard finds an inscribed gold ring, leading to the discovery of more than he could ever have expected.
