Julian was allowed to visit him for a few minutes, before he set out for Ashley-Combe, accompanied by Master Luttrell, who was anxious to consult with his neighbour as to what plans it were best for them to adopt, to be prepared for Master Pym's expected visit. At the gate of the hostelry, he was met by Giles Tudball, Will Bowering, old Master Robert Quirke, and the captain of the St. David, who had just arrived from Minehead. They, all of them, made an anxious desire to ascertain the state of Hugh de Mohun's health an excuse for meeting to pass a jovial evening at the Dunster hostelry.
