This book explores issues related to the loss of democracy, neoliberalism, and the problems of globalization and their relevance to education in the United States, Britain and other countries today. Utilizing critical pedagogy, the authors examine the paradoxical roles of schooling in reproducing and legitimizing large-scale structural inequalities, along the axes of race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and disability and, at the same time, offering opportunities for individual mobility.
