Overview

Pablo Neruda is the pen name of Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto. He was born in 1904 in Chile. He knew from an early age that he wanted to be a poet and, despite his father's attempts to change his course, he stuck with it. In 1971 he won a Nobel Prize for his writings.

Neruda got wrapped up into politics and was at times driven out of Chile and at other times welcomed back with open arms. Many people believe that in the end he died of poisoning from those opposed to his views.

He was only 18 when he wrote this, his first book. The title "Crepusculario" is traditionally translated as "Book of Twilights". This book was written in, and is presented in, the Chilean dialect of Spanish. I am working on a translated version.

I hope you enjoy his poetry as much as I do. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Note that I (Lisa Shea) will also soon have an annotated and illustrated version, for those who would enjoy having notes on each poem.
