Some commentators consider the expression Come, as the Spieit's and Bride's reply to our Lord's words, Behold I come quickly, v. 12. I have preferred Hammond's interpretation, as the expression, Let him that is athirst come, will not agree with the former.] This chapter is selected by the Church for this day's meditation, (1) because it is the word of S. John; (2) because it shows his eminence, to whom the Lohd opened the most extensive range of prophecy; and, (3) chiefly, because it contains the message of Christ by the ministry of S. John. The substance of the message is, Come to the blessings revealed. The Water of Life represents all blessings in time and eternity purchased by the Incarnation, Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension of the Lord Jesus Cheist. It proceeds from all the Holy Trinity (ver. 1, and S. John vii. 39)?devised by the love of the Fa- Ther, purchased by the work of the Son, applied by the Holy Ghost. It comprises I.
