Excerpt from Bellflower, 100 Years: 1871-1971 Bellflower Township is inthe Southeastern part of the County. It was first used as a cattle range by the pioneers of Cheney's Grove and other sections. Parties from Springfield bought the land, but it was not drained and occupied until after the Civil War. The Quarter Section of land on which Bellflower stands, was first granted by the government to an Indian squaw as a bounty, and afterwards, passed into the hands of Mr. George N.
