In this Essay Bacon uses the word 'Truth' to signify two distinct things, viz.? (1) correctness of thought, the correspondence between facts and our opinions about them: (2) truthfulness, integrity of conduct, 'the truth of civil business, ' 1. 63. jesting Pilate.
