The conduct of the gallant Colonel Gardiner, in this action, will be remembered and admired by latest posterity. The following ciicumstances of his death are narrated by P, Doddridge, D. D. and may be relied on as authentic. On Friday, September 20, i745, (the day before the battle, when the whole army was drawn up, I think about noon, the Colonel rode through all the ranks of hij own regiment, addressing themat once in the most respectful: md animating ilianner, both as soldiers and as Christians, to engage them to exert themselves courageously in the set vice of their country, and to neglect nothing that might have a tendency to prepare them for whatever should be the event of the battle.
