Excerpt from book: THE GELADA Genus?Theropithecus Habitat?Abyssinia The gelada is a true baboon in everything but the situation of the nostrils, which are some distance behind the end of the nose. It was classed by Riipell, who brought it first from its home in Abyssinia, as a macaque. Later it went into the baboon family. It is west African in its haunts. The drill (C. leuco- phaeus) is only less repulsive, the face being uniformly black.
