Overview

Aklilu Lemma was an Ethiopian pathobiologist who discovered a natural cure for a disease known as schistosomiasis. Schistosomiasis, also known as snail fever disease or bilharzia, is caused by parasitic flatworms and is spread by freshwater snails. Lemma made this important scientific discovery very early in his career. The chemical, Lemmatoxin, was named after him. He won one of the most prestigious awards known as the Right Livelihood Award of Sweden, also referred to as the Alternative Nobel Prize. This beautifully illustrated children's picture book tells his story in a way that children can understand the process of his scientific discovery. The book tells the challenges and glories of this young scientist's journey, starting from his humble beginning as a boy who was raised in a remote part of Ethiopia.
