Manila, November 30, 1898, The A K E Association of the Philippines sends greeting to the A K E Associations of God's country, to the chapters, clubs and unattached individuals?to all who owe allegiance to the Symbols Three. This newest Association on the roll was formed at a meeting last night, at the Cafe de Paris, just at the end of the famous Puenta de Espana which leads from the old walled city of Manila to Binondo, the business suburb. So far, twelve men attached to the United States expeditionary forces in one capacity or another have proclaimed themselves to be Dekes. Of these, nine were present. The others were kept away by army duty. No doubt there are a few other Dekes among the enlisted men of the various regiments, and since the organization of the Association several other regiments have come in, among which we shall probably find some more members. The occasion of the meeting in the Cafe de Paris was the first dinner of the Association. In fact, the dinner as a scheme, antedated the Association by several weeks. It was only when the nine men had gathered in the dining-room that the plan of forming an Association took definite shape and received full consideration. Then it was adopted unanimously. The nine men present represented more than a full generation, ranging from the Class of '61 to the Class of '0o. One of them, he of '61, had seen service throughout the Civil War, and had heard guns roar and bullets whistle at Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, Cold Harbor and Spottsylvania, in a way which made him call this campaign only a picnic.
