Overview

An anthology of modernist poetry celebrating 33 years of the poetry magazine Agenda. The magazine was established in 1959 by the young William Cookson in response to a suggestion from his mentor, Ezra Pound. Cookson combines a commitment to contemporary work with special issues reappraising the crucial figures in his Modernist foundation: Pound, MacDiarmid, David Jones. The book also looks at the classics, and the Moderns in languages other than English - notably Cocteau, Mandelstam and Ungaretti. Among the distinguished poets of recent times, the book includes Geoffrey Hill, Donald Davie, C.H. Sisson, Seamus Heaney and Tom Scott.
